Nine wildfires recorded across North Macedonia; five still active
Five active wildfires, three controlled and one extinguished were reported by the Center for Crisis Management by 1:00 p.m.
Nine separate wildfires were recorded today by 1:00 p.m.; five remained active, three were brought under control and one had been fully extinguished, the Center for Crisis Management reported.
The active outbreaks were reported across five municipalities. Near Vidush, close to the village of Dragov Dol in Makedonski Brod, low vegetation, shrubland and low-stemmed forest were burning. In Studenichani, fires burned above the villages of Morane, Vrtekica and Ramni Gaber and affected mixed forest.
Other active and contained blazes
Dry grass and low vegetation were burning in the Ilinden neighbourhood of Skopje and near the village of Bukri in Bitola. In Zhelino, near the village of Chiflik, the fire affected low vegetation and mixed forest.
Authorities said the blazes near the city landfill in Delchevo, near Novo Selo on Mount Ograzhden and by the village of Zajas in Kichevo — where stubble, pine forest and tires were burning — were brought under control.
The fire in the village of Vranjovce in the Vrapchishte municipality was completely extinguished; there the flames had consumed low vegetation. Separately, Kumanovo firefighters reportedly spent two hours extinguishing a blaze in Sredorek, where a sandwich shop also caught fire.
Firefighters and crisis teams remain on the ground monitoring hotspots and working to prevent further spread as temperatures and dry vegetation keep the risk elevated.
