Halit Ergenç and Meryem Uzerli reunite at İmroz’da Bahar premiere

Halit Ergenç and Meryem Uzerli — the pair best known worldwide from the TV series Suleiman the Magnificent — reunited on the red carpet as their new film İmroz’da Bahar had its world premiere last night at the El Gouna Film Festival.

The appearance marked the first time the two stars have been seen together publicly after a 15-year gap since the height of the series' popularity. Uzerli posted several photographs from the event on her Instagram account, prompting enthusiastic responses from fans.

Uzerli’s message

In an extended Instagram post Meryem Uzerli described the film and its themes and explained why the evening felt important to her. She wrote:

“A story about hope, healing and love... And about the miracle of new possibilities... Some stories begin on an island, yet they touch all of us... The island keeps many stories, but every story has a heart that can touch us all.

Our world already carries enough conflicts and suffering, often driven by those who want to divide us, label us and put us into certain boxes. Yet the true power of art lies in giving us the courage to, without fear, embrace our differences, to recognize ourselves in one another and to remember that we are all part of the same human story.

Because true self-assurance is not about experiencing differences as threats, but having the strength to accept them. And perhaps that is the most beautiful thing about art: it reminds us not of what divides us, but of what connects us. Last night was truly special to share this story with all of you. Grateful for art. Grateful for togetherness,” Uzerli wrote.

Directed by Özcan Alper, İmroz’da Bahar reassembles Halit Ergenç and Meryem Uzerli after many years. Organizers say the film is due to reach cinemas across Europe in December.

The two actors rose to international fame through their roles in the historical drama: Ergenç as Suleiman and Uzerli as Hürrem — a pairing that generated wide attention during the original series and still draws crowds at festival appearances.
