Polichrono video sparks row over towels left on sunbeds

A short video posted online on 10 September 2026 from the beach at Polichrono reignited debate over a common tourist practice: leaving towels and personal items on sunbeds overnight to “save” a spot for the next day.

The clip shows towels spread across loungers and, in its caption, asked: "Can you believe that even now, in September, beach spots are being saved like this overnight?"

The post triggered many sharp responses on social media. Users condemned the behaviour as rude and uncivil; typical reactions included: "Horrible", "A very ugly sight", "So — in September", "Creepy" and "Stubborn peasant".

One commenter shared a first‑hand incident from the nearby resort of Perea: a couple left towels on sunbeds belonging to a beach bar, left the area and later returned to continue using the loungers. The bar owner told them that the required €35 minimum spend did not entitle them to reuse the loungers without a new order, and that they either had to place a new order or leave. The couple became angry and only left after about an hour. The witness concluded simply: "Shame".

Reserving places by leaving towels or other belongings overnight is a long‑standing practice in many Greek resorts, but observers said the footage surprised people because it was captured in September, after the main tourist season winds down and crowds typically thin.

The clip revived a wider discussion about beach etiquette and whether leaving personal items unattended overnight is an acceptable way to reserve a place for the following day.
