Harry Kane: It would be fantastic to win the Ballon d'Or

August 18, 2026 — Harry Kane said he would be thrilled to win the Ballon d'Or and described himself as proud after a strong 2025/26 campaign with Bayern Munich and England.

Asked about the individual honour, Kane highlighted the scale of the prize but stressed the final choice is out of his hands. "I'm very proud of the season I played. From an individual perspective, the Ballon d'Or is the biggest prize a player can win, but the decision is not in my hands. I've done everything I could with my performances. Of course, it would be fantastic if it happens. But there are still 2-3 months before a decision is made. I'm very proud of what I achieved with Bayern and with the national team. Now I'm concentrating on the upcoming season. We have big ambitions and goals," Kane said.

The England captain was also asked whether he would start against Borussia Dortmund in the German Supercup this weekend. He said his participation was still uncertain after a condensed pre-season. "I'm not sure. I spoke with the manager about it. I only had one week of preseason, but I'm used to adapting quickly. I've played in these competitions almost every year of my career. We'll see. Whether it's 90 minutes or 45 will depend on how I feel during the week," he explained.

Kane confirmed talks over his contract are imminent: "I have only one year left on my contract and now is the time to talk about it. We'll talk about it next week or the week after. Both sides are completely relaxed about it." The striker made clear negotiations will be handled internally with Bayern Munich's leadership.

While Kane keeps the focus on preparation for the new season, his comments underline two parallel storylines ahead of the campaign: the personal bid for major individual recognition and the club-level discussions over his future in Munich.

With the German Supercup scheduled for the weekend and Bayern carrying high expectations, Kane's fitness and the outcome of his contract talks are set to be closely watched by supporters and the media alike.
