EUFOR CH-47 Chinook crashes near Brčko — four killed, 11 injured

An Italian-operated CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter assigned to the EUFOR mission crashed this afternoon near the village of Gorice, close to Brčko in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Local reports say four people died and 11 were injured in the accident.

EUFOR confirmed that one of its aircraft went down while conducting a routine operation and said there was no damage to civilian infrastructure, property or vehicles.

Police, firefighters and emergency medical teams arrived at the scene immediately. The injured were taken to the Health Centre in Brčko, where staff were placed on alert; Brčko's mayor, Sinisa Milic, said the more seriously wounded will be transferred to other hospitals for further treatment.

Investigation opened

EUFOR has launched a detailed investigation into the cause of the crash and said additional information will be released once facts are established. The mission also urged citizens not to spread unverified information and to follow official sources.

A social-media post circulating video of the accident noted: "The video shows the moment an Italian CH-47 Chinook crashed in BiH. This is the most serious accident linked to the EUFOR Althea mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2008 when a Macedonian helicopter crashed, resulting in the deaths of all 11 passengers and crew members."
