French high‑school students continue protests despite government offer

French high‑school students said the government presented a package of education measures today as a response to weeks of street protests, but the students announced they will carry on demonstrating because the proposals do not meet their demands.

Students reject the offer as insufficient

After meeting with government representatives, student spokespeople said the package includes limits on class sizes in certain grades, grants for renovating schools, and a replacement of the university admissions system which they consider unfair.

“Not all our demands have been met. We will continue as long as necessary,” Louis Letublon, one of the student representatives, said.

The Government of France has not yet formally confirmed the education proposals. A press conference that was scheduled to announce details has been postponed.

The students — who have been staging street protests for several weeks — say the proposed changes fall short of their core requests and that they will maintain pressure until their list of demands is addressed.
