Driver in Ford Transit struck Frontex officer and tractor near Bansko, two seriously injured

Two people suffered serious injuries after a commercial van struck a Frontex officer and a tractor yesterday near the village of Bansko, in the Strumica region.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that on 13 September at approximately 12:30, officers from the Border Crossing and Border Surveillance Police Station Novo Selo, together with Frontex personnel, noticed a Ford Transit commercial vehicle registered in Strumica loaded with wood.

The vehicle was driven by 33-year-old F.I., a resident of Bansko. During an attempted roadside check, the driver moved the Transit and struck a Frontex police officer from the Republic of Poland and then collided with an IMT tractor driven by 52-year-old Gj.M., also from Bansko.

Injuries and on-site findings

Both the Frontex officer and the Transit driver sustained serious bodily injuries. Their injuries were recorded at the Medical Centre in Strumica.

At the scene, investigators determined that the tractor driver was operating the vehicle without a valid driving licence. The driver of the Ford Transit has been detained.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that, after the case is fully cleared and documented, appropriate charges will follow.
