Irena Spasovska denies 'sheikh' rumours after Doha photo
The singer says the Qatar picture was a casual meeting, stresses she pays her own way and outlines her current views on love.
Irena Spasovska publicly addressed long-running speculation about a photographed companion from her trip to Qatar, telling viewers the rumours of a romantic link to a wealthy sheikh were unfounded.
After tabloids and social feeds circulated an image of the singer sitting next to a man in traditional Arab dress, Spasovska reacted bluntly on social media: "There is no sheikh, don't be jealous of me!"
She explained in a later interview that the picture was taken while visiting a popular shopping centre in Doha and insisted the meeting was casual. "There is no sheikh, you don't have to be jealous of me for something that doesn't exist. It was just an ordinary meeting, a drink and that's it," she said.
Work, travel and independence
Spasovska also spoke about her travels and how she finances them. "I travel to Egypt and Dubai because I earn on my own and those destinations today are accessible to everyone," she told Sloboden Pechat.
Turning to her love life, the singer — who ended a long relationship with journalist Orce Gelevska — said she has different expectations now and is not focused on marrying again. "I haven't thought about that topic, because I believe that even if someone finds a partner they don't have to live together. It's better to enjoy and experience the good things even if they are not in marriage," she told the TV show Kafe Muabeti.
Describing the qualities she values, Spasovska said: "A woman my age looks for a partner who will fulfil her and give her peace," adding that she prefers men who can take the lead. On the role of love in life she concluded: "There have been turbulences and I don't know if there will be more. It's part of life, but still love is the engine of everything and it's very nice when it exists."
