Special Olympics Malta 2026: Macedonian swimmers return with multiple medals
The national Special Olympics swimming team returned from Malta with individual podium finishes and a historic bronze in the relay.
North Macedonia's Special Olympics swimming delegation returned from the Special Olympics European Swimming Championship in Malta 2026 with a haul of podium finishes and performances that organizers called a milestone for the programme.
Results from Malta
Key individual results from the competition included:
- Matej Alarov – gold medal in the 50 m freestyle
- Matej Alarov – bronze medal – 4 × 50 m freestyle relay
- Julijana Petrovska – silver medal in the 50 m freestyle
- Julijana Petrovska – bronze medal – 50 m backstroke
- Julijana Petrovska – bronze medal – 50 m freestyle
- Stefan Trpkovski – bronze medal in the 50 m backstroke
- Stefan Trpkovski – bronze medal – 4 × 50 m freestyle relay
- Jana Katsarska – bronze medal – 4 × 50 m freestyle relay
A particularly significant moment came in the 4 × 50 m freestyle relay: the national team entered a relay race for the first time and immediately secured a bronze medal.
Behind these results were months of training, discipline and dedication. The campaign highlighted the commitment of the athletes and coaching staff, and showcased athletes who demonstrated determination and courage in Malta.
