Iva Bogdanovska claimed the gold medal in the under-63 kilogram category at the senior Balkan Judo Championships held in Tirana, Albania, on August 1, 2026.
Bogdanovska progressed through a tough draw: she defeated Albania's Desara Ndoçi in the quarterfinals, overcame Bosnia's Samardžić in the semifinals, and then beat home hopeful Kasandra Kovaçi to take the title.
Turning points and match rhythm
The young Macedonian showed tactical patience and quick attacks across all three decisive bouts, combining grip control with well-timed throws to secure wins against opponents from the host nation and the region. Her victory over Kovaçi in the final secured the top step of the podium for North Macedonia.
The result adds an important international senior title to Bogdanovska's résumé and highlights the progress of Macedonian judo at regional level. Team officials praised her composure in crucial moments and described the outcome as a reward for preparation and experience gained at previous continental competitions.
