Colombian Janko Penjafort and his band VardarAndi wish Macedonians a happy Ilinden
A Seville-based Colombian musician and his band posted a Macedonian-language Ilinden greeting and performed traditional songs.
Colombian musician Janko Penjafort and his band VardarAndi sent a greeting to Macedonians for the Ilinden holiday from Seville, Spain, performing in the Macedonian language and sharing a patriotic song.
The group posted a message in Macedonian on their Facebook page and accompanied it with a recording of a traditional-sounding piece, addressing listeners from Seville.
International fans of Macedonian songs
In their post they wrote: "We congratulate you on Ilinden! We wish you peace, unity, prosperity and that your beautiful traditions live on for many more generations. Happy Ilinden!"
VardarAndi regularly includes Macedonian material in its repertoire; the band performs songs such as "Jovano, Jovanke", "Makedonsko Devojche" and "Makedonche Sokole" and last year visited North Macedonia to perform live.
The Seville-based greeting underlines how folk and patriotic music from North Macedonia reach audiences beyond the Balkans and how expatriate and foreign performers participate in national commemorations from abroad.
