On 11 September 2026, Macedonian karateka Jovana Micovska claimed the silver medal at the European University Championship in combat sports held in Tirana, Albania. In the final she was defeated by Turkey's Nurbade Buber with a score of 1-3.

Strong run to the final

Micovska reached the gold-medal match after recording four wins earlier in the competition. Her podium finish provided the only medal for the Macedonian university karate team at the event hosted under the auspices of EUSA.

Fellow Macedonian competitors Petar Zaborski and Vukashin Jovanovic came close to the podium as well, each finishing in fifth place.

The karate tournament featured 306 competitors, accounting for 377 entries, representing 141 universities from 26 countries.

The result highlights Micovska's progress on the university stage and gives the Macedonian contingent a visible success as the championships concluded in Tirana.
