Stone Bridge in Skopje to receive modern architectural lighting

Work began on 16 September 2026 to equip Skopje’s Stone Bridge with a new decorative and architectural lighting system aimed at transforming its after-dark appearance.

The plan calls for contemporary lighting tailored to the bridge’s characteristics, with special emphasis on accentuating the arches and preserving the structure’s authentic look.

For centuries the Stone Bridge has linked the two banks of the Vardar and remains one of Skopje’s most important cultural and historical landmarks, a defining element of the city skyline.

Project partners and goals

The lighting installation is being implemented as a collaborative effort confirmed by a cooperation protocol with Esenler Municipality of Turkey. Several local institutions and technical experts are participating in the project.

Authorities expect the new illumination to secure the bridge a distinct place in Skopje’s nocturnal panorama and to create an added attraction for both residents and visitors.
