Manchester City appeal could be delayed until 2027
Club has until Friday, 2 October 2026 to appeal; challenge to new 12‑week appeal rules could prolong the process.

Manchester City's legal fight with the Premier League may stretch much further than expected and could ultimately be pushed into 2027. The club has until Friday, 2 October 2026, to lodge an appeal against an independent commission ruling that found it guilty of serious breaches of the Premier League's financial rules.
The commission's decision covers alleged breaches spanning the 2009/10 to 2017/18 seasons and also records that Manchester City committed most of the infringements related to non-cooperation with the investigation.
Information circulating in the media indicates City may contest the application of newly introduced appeal rules that require appeals to be concluded within 12 weeks. The club could argue those deadlines should not apply because the case began before the rules were adopted, and that legal dispute could extend the process significantly.
How the timetable could be extended
If City formally challenges the new deadlines, the appeal procedure would first need judicial or regulatory clarification on whether the rules are retroactive. That phase of argument could add months to the schedule and make it feasible for a final outcome to arrive in 2027 rather than imminently.
Until the appeal window closes on 2 October 2026, Manchester City can decide whether to accept the commission's findings or press the case through the appeals system and possibly the courts. Any challenge to the procedural rules would be the likeliest path to a prolonged timeline.
