Kimi Antonelli produced a dramatic home victory at Monza on September 6, 2026, becoming the first Italian driver to win the Italian Grand Prix since 1966.
Driving for Mercedes, Antonelli climbed from a 19th-place start — imposed after a power unit change — to claim the win in the 13th round of the 2026 Formula 1 season. It was the teenager's seventh victory this year and the seventh of his career.
Late-race duel and a trip into the gravel
Antonelli beat his teammate George Russell in a tense head-to-head fight, at one point running into the gravel before recovering to take the lead. At the finish the two Mercedes drivers were separated by just under four seconds.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen completed the podium in third, finishing almost 15 seconds behind the winner.
