Kostadinovski on Ilinden: Call to unite around the Constitution and the rule of law
The president of the Constitutional Court on August 2 urged citizens to uphold the ideals of Ilinden and the ASNOM generation by strengthening a modern, lawful state.
Darko Kostadinovski, the president of the Constitutional Court, marked 2 August — Ilinden, Republic Day — by addressing citizens with a reminder of the historical obligations that accompany the holiday.
In his message Kostadinovski said the ideals of Ilinden and those of the ASNOM generation demand continued work to build a prosperous, modern and lawful state.
He called on institutions to act responsibly and on citizens to have confidence that their rights and freedoms are protected, framing those elements as essential to the republic’s future.
As part of the address he stated: "It is necessary to relearn to be united around the Constitution, the rule of law and a shared responsibility to the Republic."
Kostadinovski further argued that true patriotism today is demonstrated through commitment to the rule of law, respect for the Constitution and strengthening the legal state, rather than solely through symbolic acts.
He closed by linking the legacy of Ilinden and the ASNOM generation to a present-day appeal for unity and civic responsibility in defending democratic institutions and the rights they guarantee.
