A cold atmospheric front arriving from the north will begin to affect the Balkans and North Macedonia from 11 September, bringing a marked drop in temperatures and a change from the recent summer heat, meteorologist Slavcho Poposki warned.

What forecasters expect

According to Poposki, the front will pass over the Alps and is likely to produce the season's first snowfalls in the European Alps while destabilizing the weather across the region. He said the incoming system could trigger storm development and heavier, more frequent precipitation.

"This cold atmospheric front from the north I expect will significantly destabilize the atmosphere across the Balkans and in North Macedonia. I expect development of storm systems, frequent precipitation, occurrence of thunder and local weather hazards that can create new problems.

Already from 11 September temperatures will be much lower and we will slowly feel the arrival of autumn and autumnal weather with more frequent rain, but also much lower air temperatures. With the infernal heat for this summer, from 11 September we are already finishing.

Forecasters advise that conditions could become locally severe where thunderstorms form, and residents should prepare for a sudden shift from prolonged high temperatures to cooler, wetter weather from 11 September onward.
