False bomb threats force evacuation at Radio Television of Serbia; evening newscast delayed

False bomb threats against facilities of the public broadcaster Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) forced the evacuation of employees and delayed the evening newscast on the broadcaster's main channel.

RTS said its contact centre received a bomb threat at 18:42. Staff were ordered to leave RTS buildings while security teams carried out inspections.

Security checks and timetable disruption

Anti-sabotage units of the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs searched RTS premises on Takovska and Aberdareva streets, as well as Radio Belgrade and the Košutnjak facility. Broadcasts were interrupted while checks were under way.

The second Dnevnik newscast was postponed by nearly half an hour as a result of the inspections. After the security sweep concluded the threats were found to be false, staff returned and normal programming resumed.

The developments come shortly after changes to RTS management: following the resignation of general director Manja Grčić, the broadcaster's Board held an electronic session the previous day and appointed Dejan Jovanović as acting director and Borivoje Uskoković as chief and responsible editor of the news programme.
