Levica: Economic growth not reflected in living standards

Levica said the official economic indicators used by the Government of North Macedonia do not reflect the everyday reality for citizens and their purchasing power.

The party highlighted several figures to support its assessment: the minimum trade-union basket amounts to 68.675 denari, two minimum wages together reach 52.092 denari, while the reported average net salary of 49.544 denari is, according to Levica, insufficient to cover basic family expenses.

Economic growth vs. household reality

Levica also cited growth data showing that North Macedonia ranked fourth out of six countries in the Western Balkans in the first quarter of 2026. The party used this ranking to argue that headline growth numbers are not translating into improved living standards.

According to the party's statement, the gap between macroeconomic indicators and the cost of living is evident: rising GDP or growth rates have not produced wages or purchasing power that allow families to meet basic needs.

The party concluded that measured economic progress has not been reflected in a higher standard of living for the population and called attention to the mismatch between national statistics and household budgets.
