Levica to take part in 12:05 platform forum
Amar Mecinovic will represent Levica at the "What after 35 years?" public forum organized by a group of current and former SDSM officials.
Levica will take part in a public forum convened by the 12:05 platform, the party announced. MP and party spokesperson Amar Mecinovic will speak on behalf of Levica at the discussion titled "What after 35 years?", which focuses on the political system, the legacy of the past three and a half decades and the prospects ahead.
The 12:05 platform is formed by current and former officials associated with SDSM and has scheduled the next round of talks for today at 12:05.
Levica said it will present its own perspective "in the conversation about the next political phase." In a written statement the party framed its participation as part of an ongoing series of discussions with various opposition and civic actors, undertaken from the standpoint of its political integrity and acquired legitimacy.
"Levica today is a consolidated parliamentary force with its own political capacity, a clearly recognizable leftist identity and a carrier of the opposition space. Therefore, our positions are inevitably part of any debate about how the next political phase in the country should look. In conditions where the existing model has clearly shown its weaknesses, Levica enters such discussions with weight gained through its own political activity, opposition engagement and continuous presence in public conflicts with the authorities. Debates about the future political direction of Macedonia inevitably include the position that Levica represents," the party said.
Platform organisers and reactions
Representatives of the democratic platform — Gordana Georgiev, Andrej Petrov, Slavjanka Petrovska, Igor Ivanovski, Nikola Qurkchiev and Emilijan Stankovic — told a Thursday briefing that they will not become a new political party nor will they run independent lists in parliamentary elections. They said the platform aims to begin talks on consolidating the opposition front with the goal of defeating the current government.
The governing party SDSM accused members of the platform of being media‑backed by portals and journalists close to Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, and former Health Minister Venko Filipche warned that the platform is attempting a coup to seize the party. SDSM also said, "Citizens can see which media sponsor the ZNAM 2.0 Platform — the patron is Mickoski," while another SDSM spokesperson dismissed the platform's moves as blaming VMRO‑DPMNE for everything, including events inside SDSM.
