North Macedonia without Jani Atanasov for Lucerne match

North Macedonia will travel to Lucerne without midfielder Jani Atanasov for the upcoming UEFA Nations League B fixture against Switzerland, after Atanasov received a yellow card in the previous match and is suspended for accumulation.

The national team fell 0-2 to Scotland in the third round of this Nations League campaign, and must now prepare for the away game set for Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 20:45 at Thermoplan Arena in Lucerne.

Coach did not add replacements before the window closed

Head coach Goce Sedloski had indicated before the match with Slovenia that he would call up additional players because of injuries to Nikolov and Alioski and several suspensions, but no fresh call-ups followed after the Scotland defeat. With the international window now underway, new additions cannot be registered in time for the trip to Switzerland.

The absence of Atanasov is a tactical and personnel setback: he received his second yellow card of the campaign in the Scotland game and is therefore automatically suspended for the next fixture.

Preparations continue with the squad available, but the coaching staff must find on-site solutions to cover the midfield vacancy. The team will travel to Lucerne aiming to limit the damage in Group B despite the setback.
