North Macedonia imported €311 million in pharmaceuticals in 2025
Five countries supplied over half of imports — Germany was the largest source with €55.7 million.
North Macedonia imported pharmaceutical products worth about €311 million in 2025, with more than half of that sum coming from just five countries, official trade databases show.
Germany is the single largest supplier, providing pharmaceuticals valued at approximately €55.7 million. Slovenia follows with €40.2 million, France with €21.9 million, Italy with €20 million and the Netherlands with €19.8 million. The five countries account for roughly €157.6 million — a little over half of the country’s total pharmaceutical imports.

The figures are compiled from the World Bank and UN Comtrade data and cover products classified in international trade statistics as pharmaceuticals, which include medicines and other pharmaceutical preparations and are not limited to retail pharmacy sales.
Imports jumped compared with 2024, when pharmaceutical imports were about €267 million; the difference represents an increase of approximately €44 million in a single year.
On average during 2025 North Macedonia imported pharmaceuticals worth about €852,000 per day. Daily imports from Germany alone averaged more than €152,000.
The growth in import spending — roughly €44 million year-on-year — indicates a rapidly rising import bill for pharmaceuticals, while concentration remains high: nearly every second euro spent on pharmaceutical imports was for products purchased from those five countries.
