North Macedonia Special Olympics swimmers compete at European meet in Malta

North Macedonia's Special Olympics swimming team is competing at the European swimming meet in Malta, held from 10 to 14 September 2026.

The delegation arrives after months of focused preparation and intensive training sessions. Coaches say the athletes have worked steadily to sharpen technique and race readiness in the lead-up to the event.

For many members of the team this is both a sporting challenge and a chance to gain international competition experience, racing alongside peers from across Europe and showcasing their progress in the pool.

Competition outlook

Over the five-day programme the athletes will take part in multiple swim events according to their classifications. Team officials emphasise personal bests and enjoyment of the competition as primary goals, alongside the pursuit of podium results.

Support staff and family members have travelled with the team to Malta, providing logistical and moral support. The delegation aims to make the most of the opportunity and return with new experience and memories.
