Marta Kos presents EU 2026 enlargement package today
The Commission's package includes reports on ten candidate and potential candidate countries and will trigger parliamentary draft resolutions and talks on funding.

EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos will present the European Union's 2026 enlargement package today in the European Parliament. The document contains the European Commission's progress reports for ten candidate and potential candidate countries, with a clear focus on implementation of reforms and alignment with EU standards.
Next steps in the parliamentary review
After the reports are published, the standing rapporteurs of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs will prepare draft resolutions for each country. Those draft texts will set out MEPs' positions and recommendations on how each country should advance on its path towards EU membership.
Commission representatives are scheduled to brief MEPs on the implementation of national reform agendas and on the disbursement of EU funds tied to those reforms. The exchanges are intended to give lawmakers a clearer picture of whether conditionalities attached to assistance have been met.
Dialogues on financial instruments to support the Western Balkans, Moldova and Ukraine have been announced for tomorrow. These talks are expected to explore funding arrangements that accompany the political assessments in the enlargement package.
Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission, will take part in the meetings alongside other Commission officials.
The presentation in parliament marks the start of a period of scrutiny in which the European Parliament will shape its formal recommendations ahead of any decisions by member states.
