Mate Rimac announces three new battery-equipped models from Kerestinec next year

Mate Rimac announced that Rimac's Kerestinec campus will begin supplying battery systems for three new car models next year as the company prepares a multi-year expansion to double production capacity.

Campus investment and expansion plans

Rimac said more than €400 million has already been invested in the Kerestinec complex: roughly €120 million went into the building itself, another €13 million for land, while installed production lines are valued at about €300 million. The group’s investors have put in roughly €2 billion to date, and the project has been financed with company funds and investor capital.

When construction began the site employed about 300 people and the group had not yet secured large contracts with the likes of BMW or Porsche, nor had Bugatti joined the group. Today roughly 1,200 people work at the Kerestinec campus and a further 900 remain at the Jankomir location, leaving almost no spare production space.

All lines in the complex are installed and are being ramped up in phases. At Jankomir Rimac produces battery systems for the Porsche 911 with an annual capacity of about 30,000 units. The same facility manufactures electric motors, inverters and gearboxes for the Saudi company CEER. At the Kerestinec campus production has begun of battery systems for the new BMW i7.

With current installations Rimac expects to reach an annual output of more than 60,000 battery and drive systems, which it estimates corresponds to exports worth roughly €350 million per year. By the end of this year two more major production lines are planned to enter service, and next year three new car models using batteries made in Kerestinec will be launched on the market.

The company has set a target for Rimac Technology to exceed 100,000 systems a year and to achieve exports of about €800 million by 2028 (without the contribution of Bugatti Rimac). For context, Rimac Technology posted revenues of €90 million in 2023, rose to €267 million last year, and is expected to surpass €350 million this year with a trajectory to double again over the following two years.

Mate Rimac stressed the group's engineering role in the business: "This is not just production to someone else's designs. More than 500 of our engineers in Croatia develop their own technology which is then industrialised and produced here," Rimac said.
