Mavrovo Lake has been replenished with a total of 400 kilograms of fish as part of this year’s stocking programme, park officials said. The operation released 200 kilograms of trout and 200 kilograms of carp (Cyprinus carpio) into the reservoir and connected waterways inside Mavrovo National Park.

Park management described the release as part of ongoing measures to maintain and improve the local fish population and to preserve the natural balance of the lake’s aquatic ecosystems.

“The protection of the waters and fish stock is our shared responsibility. By respecting the rules and acting responsibly, we contribute to preserving the park's natural wealth,” National Park Mavrovo said.

Temporary ban on carp fishing

From October 31, 2026 a two-month ban on carp (Cyprinus carpio) fishing will be enforced in the recreational zone of Mavrovo Lake. The measure was ordered by the responsible minister following a request from the park administration and will remain in force until December 31, 2026.

Park officials said the restriction aims to allow the newly stocked carp to adapt, spread and grow in natural conditions, helping to preserve and renew the lake’s fish resources. “The aim is to allow successful adaptation, dispersal and growth of the stocked individuals in the natural conditions of Mavrovo Lake, thereby contributing to the preservation and renewal of the fish stock,” National Park Mavrovo added.
