A man jumped into the waters of the Vardar River this morning in the Gazi Baba area of Skopje and was taken to a hospital for medical care, police said.

“Today (September 14, 2026) at around 08:00, it was reported to the Skopje Police Department that a male person had jumped into the waters of the Vardar River in the Gazi Baba area. Police officers went to the scene. The person was transported by ambulance to hospital for medical assistance,” the Ministry of Interior said.

Police response and what is known so far

Officers from the Skopje police went to the location after the report and coordinated with emergency medical services. The man was loaded into an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital; authorities did not provide further details about his injuries or current medical condition.

Investigators have not released information about the circumstances that led to the incident. At this stage, the Ministry of Interior's brief statement contains the main confirmed facts: time, place, police attendance and transport to hospital.

The incident occurred in the Gazi Baba neighbourhood, along the Vardar River that runs through Skopje. Police continue to handle the case and have not announced any ongoing public-safety measures or a formal investigation update.
