Mexican charged after hitting police officer with beer can at Skopje October Fest
Skopje prosecutors say a 31-year-old Mexican hit an officer with a beer can at an October Fest event and have requested pretrial detention.
A 31-year-old Mexican national has been placed at the centre of a criminal case in Skopje after prosecutors say he assaulted a police officer during a public event on September 19, 2026.
According to the Skopje Basic Public Prosecutor's Office, the incident took place in Gjorche Petrov Park during the event "October Fest – Sounds of Culture." Prosecutors allege the suspect struck an on-duty officer in the head with a beer can when the officer attempted to check the man’s identity.
Charges and detention request
The office says the man then continued to physically attack the officer, striking him on the arms while the officer tried to make an arrest. He is charged with assaulting an officer while the officer was performing security duties.
Prosecutors have asked a court to order pretrial detention, arguing the suspect does not have a registered place of residence in North Macedonia and therefore poses a risk of flight.
Police earlier reported that the man was detained after refusing to produce identification and behaving aggressively toward officers. During police measures his blood alcohol level was measured at 2.30‰.
The proceedings were opened on September 21, 2026 by the Skopje Basic Public Prosecutor's Office; the investigation remains under way and the court will decide on the detention request.
