Hristijan Mickoski published photos from meeting with Marco Rubio; strategic partnership with the US reaffirmed

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski shared photos from a meeting with Senator Marco Rubio in New York during his visit to the United States, posting the images on his official Facebook account. The pictures show Mickoski accompanied by Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski and members of the government delegation.

"These talks are of special significance and represent confirmation of the importance of the strategic partnership and the ongoing political dialogue with the United States of America," Mickoski wrote in his post.

According to his statement, the direct exchange at a high political level offers an opportunity to discuss matters of mutual interest, deepen bilateral ties and further strengthen North Macedonia's position as a stable and reliable ally.

Meetings in Washington and contacts with investors

During his stay in the United States, Mickoski and the delegation held a series of meetings with U.S. institutions, members of Congress and representatives from the economic sector. He also met with the acting Chief Development Officer for the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), Karolin Vik; the DFC already has a presence in North Macedonia through its investment in the Krstovdol project, publicly known as "Antimon".

"In a period of serious geopolitical challenges, strong partnerships and open dialogue with our strategic allies carry even greater weight. North Macedonia has clear national interests and continues to represent them with dignity and principle alongside our strategic partners. We continue to strengthen the Macedonian–American strategic partnership and to create new opportunities," Mickoski added.

On the congressional front, the prime minister held talks in Washington with Representative Kit Self, chair of the Europe subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and with Representative Claudia Tenney, co-chair of the Macedonian Friendship Group in Congress. Government statements describe the series of meetings as part of an effort to convert strategic ties into concrete economic cooperation, new investments and projects relevant to the country.

While in Washington Mickoski also spoke at the Atlantic Council about North Macedonia's EU integration, criticizing what he described as a departure from a merit-based accession approach and stressing that the government will continue diplomatic talks on bilateral issues with neighbouring countries.
