Hristijan Mickoski met Janez Janša in New York to press for a fair EU accession process

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski met in New York with the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, in a session focused on North Macedonia’s European perspective and bilateral cooperation, Mickoski said on Facebook.

According to Mickoski, the discussion covered deepening political and economic ties between the two countries as well as the current geopolitical and security challenges facing Europe and the wider region. He underlined that North Macedonia remains committed to reforms that improve citizens’ lives.

Push for a principled EU process

“Our position is clear – European integration must be based on merits, fulfilled criteria and real results, and not on new bilateral conditions that have no substantive connection with European values. We do not seek privileges and we do not seek a shortcut. We demand a fair and predictable process in which achievements will be assessed, and North Macedonia will be respected as a state and a partner,” the prime minister said.

Mickoski described Slovenia as a long-standing friend and an important partner within the European Union and NATO, and said both countries have a mutual interest in turning that friendship into stronger economic cooperation.

He added that the aim is to attract more investment and to launch concrete projects that create new opportunities for citizens and business, framing the meeting as part of a broader diplomatic effort to advance North Macedonia’s EU path while securing respect for the country in the accession process.
