Ministry awards 1,200 scholarships to Roma students — up to 27,000 denars each

The Ministry of Education and Science of North Macedonia has opened a call for 1,200 scholarships aimed at Roma pupils enrolled in first to fourth year of public and private high schools across the country.

Support is planned for a nine‑month period and the monthly amount depends on the student’s grade average from the previous school year. Monthly payments range from 1,200 to 3,000 denars, meaning each beneficiary may receive between 10,800 and 27,000 denars over nine months.

How the scholarships are allocated

The scholarships are split into four categories by grade average. A total of 340 scholarships are reserved for students with averages from 4.50 to 5.00; these recipients will receive 3,000 denars per month (27,000 denars for nine months). The second category covers averages from 3.50 to 4.49 with 390 scholarships at 2,300 denars monthly (20,700 denars total). A further 250 scholarships are available for averages from 3.00 to 3.49 at 1,700 denars per month (15,300 denars total). The fourth category includes 220 scholarships for averages from 2.00 to 2.99 at 1,200 denars per month (10,800 denars total).

Eligible applicants must be regular students enrolled in first, second, third or fourth year at a public or private high school in North Macedonia, hold citizenship of North Macedonia and belong to the Roma ethnic community. Candidates must not have repeated the previous school year and must not already receive another scholarship.

Applications will be submitted electronically through the Ministry’s e‑Services system. The application window runs from 1 to 18 October. Students must upload required documents at the time of application: a certificate proving regular enrolment, the previous school year’s transcript showing the achieved average, a bank transaction account in the student’s name for payments, and a scanned confirmation issued by a regional Roma association, organization or NGO from their place of residence. Applicants must also complete declarations confirming they are not beneficiaries of another scholarship and that they belong to the Roma community.

After the deadline the ministry will review applications and check that candidates meet eligibility conditions. Academic performance will carry particular weight in selection, and the four‑tier arrangement is intended to distribute support across a broader group of pupils with different averages.

Results are scheduled to be published on 20 November. Each applicant can check the outcome and receive the official decision through their profile in the e‑Services system.
