Ministry of Health: Defective CT scanners being serviced, patients redirected to two Skopje clinics

The Ministry of Health, together with the University Institute of Radiology, announced that defective computed tomography (CT) scanners are being serviced and that work is underway to return the machines to operation as soon as possible.

“For ensuring continuity of health care, uninterrupted care of emergency patients and timely CT diagnostics and until their devices are returned to service the patients are cared for, i.e. the scans are performed at Clinical Hospital '8th September' and the Surgical Clinic 'St. Naum Ohridski' in Skopje. The health and safety of patients are our priority. Therefore, until the devices are returned to service, patients referred for computed tomography are accepted and scanned according to the following schedule: Clinical Hospital '8th September', Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Surgical Clinic for Surgical Diseases 'St. Naum Ohridski' – Skopje The arrangement is temporary and will be applied only while the devices at the University Institute of Radiology are not returned to function. We ask patients and physicians to strictly respect the stated timetable. For any change in the situation, as well as for the reestablishment of the regular work regime, all relevant health institutions, services and the public will be timely informed,”

the Ministry of Health said, adding that the Institute and the Ministry are coordinating the technical work and organising patient referrals so that diagnostic services continue without interruption.

Temporary patient routing and practical details

The ministry said the reorganisation of patient referrals began at the start of the week. Until the CT machines at the University Institute of Radiology are back in service, scheduled and urgent CT scans will be carried out at the two Skopje clinics named in the statement.

Officials asked both patients and physicians to follow the temporary timetable and warned that the arrangement will remain in force only while repairs continue. They also pledged to inform all relevant health institutions, services and the public as soon as the regular working regime is restored.

The ministry appealed that the issue should not be used for day-to-day political purposes.
