Orhan Murtezani takes post as North Macedonia’s ambassador to NATO
Orhan Murtezani becomes North Macedonia’s permanent representative to NATO; he is one of nine envoys approved by the government in February.

Former European Affairs Minister Orhan Murtezani has assumed the post of ambassador and permanent representative of North Macedonia to NATO, he announced in a social-media post. Murtezani is among nine diplomats whose nominations were approved at a government session in February this year.
Government named nine new envoys in February
The government selected nine new ambassadors, including Efremov to Bulgaria, Murtezani to NATO, Mangova to London and Atanasov to Romania. Murtezani’s appointment places him at NATO’s headquarters as the country’s chief envoy to the Alliance.
In a Facebook post Murtezani described the move as a continuation of his public service: "New duty, same responsibility. For me this is a new professional chapter, but at the same time a continuation of the same commitment — that North Macedonia be secure at home, a credible ally and a country that has its voice and contributes within the Euro-Atlantic family. Especially today, when security cannot be taken for granted, NATO membership brings both privilege and responsibility," he wrote.
Murtezani served as minister for European affairs from June 2024 until December 2025. He was dismissed without an explanation after the 2025 local elections, at the time when his party colleague from Vlen, Izet Medziti, won the mayoralty of Čair and stepped down from the post of minister of environment. Bekim Sali and Muhamed Hodzha were later selected to fill the vacancies in the cabinet.
Following Murtezani’s removal from the ministerial post, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski announced that Murtezani would join Mickoski’s office with responsibility for monitoring the implementation of the Reform Agenda.
