Police arrested drivers across the country for driving without a license, under the influence, speeding and for violating active bans.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that over the past 24 hours law enforcement officers detained 21 drivers at different locations nationwide; one person was subjected to an official interview on suspicion of the criminal offence of reckless driving.
“Of them, 10 persons drove without a valid driving license, namely: N. M. (41) from the village of Saraj, Skopje region; A. R. (25) from the village of Batinci, Skopje region; H. Sh. (35) from the village of Negotino, Gostivar region; a 16-year-old from the village of Vidushe, Municipality of Mavrovo and Rostuse; A. S. (31) from the village of Kovach, Municipality of Macedonski Brod; A. D. (32) from the village of Koroshishta, Struga region; K. S. (62) from Gradsko; E. J. (27), E. D. (43) and N. J. (22), all from Skopje, of whom N. J. was also driving at a speed greater than allowed,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
Police officers from the Probishtip Regional Unit, in the presence of a parent, conducted an official interview with a 16-year-old from the village of Prikovci, Kratovo municipality, because he had been operating a moped without a driving permit.
“Ten persons drove under the influence of alcohol, namely: D. D. (39) from the Kumanovo area; S. K. (40) from the village of Injevo, Radovish area; G. I. (31) from the village of Dulica, Municipality of Macedonska Kamenica; O. V. (27) from Macedonska Kamenica; M. U. (44) from Kichevo; D. M. (24) from the village of Brvenica, Tetovo region; Z. S. (54) from Skopje; N. Z. (64) from Bitola; A. N. (46) from Prilep; and S. J. (66) from the village of Selce, Prilep area. Meanwhile, V. D. (37) from Macedonski Brod was operating a passenger vehicle despite an active ban on driving category B vehicles,” the ministry added.
After full documentation of the cases, appropriate criminal charges will be filed, the ministry said.
Police appeal for safer behaviour on the roads
“We appeal to all road users to respect traffic rules and regulations, not to drive without a valid driving license or if they have been subject to a ban on driving, and not to operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and together to contribute to safer traffic,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
