The City of Skopje has launched a programme to fully renovate and repair the pedestrian promenade along the Vardar river, covering the stretch between Lisiche and Vlae.

As part of the works, damaged and broken paving tiles are being removed and replaced, uneven surfaces are being levelled and other defects along the pedestrian route are being repaired. The municipality says the aim is to return the quay to a safe, functional and well-maintained public space accessible to all generations.

Greening, sport facilities and river cleaning

The green area beside Macedonia Square has been refreshed with new planting, and the adjacent pedestrian path is also being renewed. In recent months the City of Skopje has completed new sports courts and has been installing contemporary urban furniture along the quay.

The works on the promenade are presented by the city as part of a broader programme to revive activity and services along the river. At the same time, local authorities are carrying out a large-scale clearance of the Vardar riverbed within Skopje’s administrative area.

Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski said the quay is the pulse of Skopje, a place where citizens gather daily, and that maintaining and developing it remains a municipal priority.

In recent days municipal teams have planted several dozen trees across the large green strip between Macedonia Square and the City Trade Center, while crews continue to replace and restore the pedestrian paving in that sector.
