Celebrities at Ostrog: finding peace and strength in the monastery's cliffs
From Dragana Mirković to Ana Nikolić — public figures say they found lasting solace, strength and blessings at the shrine of Saint Basil of Ostrog.
Ostrog monastery has long been a symbol of hope and miracles for pilgrims from the region and beyond. Carved high into the rock, the shrine draws thousands every year — among them a steady stream of public figures who speak openly about the spiritual experiences they found there.
Famous visitors describe quiet, lasting consolation
Many artists, singers and actors say that, when they come to Saint Basil of Ostrog and pray in the silence of the cliffs, they discover a sense of peace and blessing that stays with them after they return home.
Dragana Mirković, the well-known folk star, has repeatedly shown her charitable side and holds Ostrog close to her heart. She has even donated mattresses for pilgrims who wish to spend the night at the monastery. "I didn't talk much about it. I bought mattresses for everyone who wants to spend the night there and everyone from the monastery was very grateful. My heart is full when I do that. Where I can help — I'm there," the singer said, who visited Ostrog last year with her son Marko and daughter Manuela.
Suzana Jovanović, widow of Saša Popović, says she finds comfort and spiritual strength in faith and prayer. She described her first overnight stay at the monastery guesthouse: "In the room there were over 20 people, and the beds were those military, metal ones, with a very thin mattress. But when I lay down, I slept better than in a seven-star hotel! We were all flooded with a special energy and grace. When a person has faith within themselves, they receive superhuman strength," Suzana recounted candidly.
Croatian singer Nina Badrić visited Ostrog accompanied by Serbian actress Nataša Ninković; the photo they took in front of the fresco of the Holy Trinity attracted warm reactions on social media. Singer Ana Nikolić also paid her respects at the relics of Saint Basil, posing in a long beige dress and wearing a headscarf in keeping with local customs.
Some followers raised eyebrows over Ana Nikolić's choice of summer footwear — she wore casual slippers — but many defended her, reminding commentators that "faith is not in clothing, but in the heart." Whether famous or not, visitors say the same thing: in Ostrog's silence they find a reserve of calm, strength and blessing that endures beyond the visit.
