Body-worn cameras introduced at Tabanovce border, system launched on 17 September 2026
A system of body-worn cameras donated via ICITAP and the U.S. Department of Justice is being put into use at the Tabanovce border on 17 September 2026.
On 17 September 2026 the Customs Administration will formally introduce a system of body-worn cameras for customs officers at the Tabanovce border crossing, officials said at a launch event scheduled for that day.
Donation from ICITAP and U.S. Department of Justice
The equipment was provided as a donation through the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP), operating within the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. The program supplied the cameras and supporting systems to be used by customs staff at the checkpoint.
Speakers at the ceremony include Customs Administration Director Boban Nikolovski, Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kocoska, and Acting U.S. Ambassador Nicole Varns. The launch will mark the official start of deployment and the beginning of training for officers who will use the devices.
Authorities say the introduction of body-worn cameras is part of a wider effort to strengthen transparency, integrity and professional standards in the daily work of customs officers. Officials expect the system to both document interactions at the border and support internal accountability measures.
The rollout at Tabanovce is the first publicized deployment; officials did not announce a national timetable for wider distribution on the day of the launch. Training, technical support and data-management procedures will accompany the devices as they enter operational use.
