At least nine killed in Russian missile strike on Kyiv and surrounding region
Kalibr cruise missiles struck residential areas and warehouses in and around Kyiv; 33 people wounded.

At least nine people were killed and 33 were injured in a heavy Russian missile attack overnight on Kyiv and the surrounding region, Ukrainian authorities reported.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said residential neighbourhoods and warehouses were struck. City military authorities reported damage to several buildings, a medical facility and an educational institution, adding that eight people died and 33 were wounded in the capital.
Regional governor Timur Tkachenko said a separate strike in the Brovary area killed one person and wounded another. "One industrial facility was damaged. All relevant services are on site and are working to extinguish the fire," he said.
The Ukrainian Air Forces warned that Russian Kalibr cruise missiles were flying over Kaharlyk and heading toward the capital.
Local response and wider military alerts
A witness said he heard more than a dozen explosions during the bombardment, and emergency crews assisted residents to evacuate struck buildings across Kyiv.
Poland's military command said it mobilised aircraft and activated air defences to protect Polish airspace, particularly in areas bordering Ukraine. Romania's Ministry of Defence reported radar systems picked up aerial targets near the Ukrainian border, prompting the scramble of two Spanish fighter jets on NATO duty and one Romanian Air Force helicopter.
Russian and Ukrainian forces have exchanged strikes nearly every day since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022, and diplomatic efforts involving the United States and European states have so far failed to secure a lasting ceasefire.
