Man from Mavrovo and Rostuše arrested after locking and assaulting wife
Police freed a 49-year-old woman on August 25, 2026 at 19:30; the 61-year-old husband M.B. was detained.
A man from a village in the Mavrovo and Rostuše municipality has been arrested after police freed his wife, who was reportedly locked inside their home, assaulted and threatened, the Ministry of Interior said.
The suspect, identified by initials as M.B. (61), was taken into custody following a prior report that his 49-year-old wife had been confined and physically attacked inside the family house. Officers from the Rostuše Police Department intervened on the evening of August 25, 2026.
Police freed the woman at about 19:30 and detained the husband
“On 25.08.2026 at 19:30, police officers from the Rostuše Police Department detained M.B.(61) from a village in the Mavrovo and Rostuše municipality, acting on a prior report that in the family house he had locked his 49-year-old wife, physically attacked her and threatened her. Around 19:30 police officers freed the woman, and he was apprehended and detained at a police station. After full documentation of the case, an appropriate charge will be filed against him,” the police said.
After being brought to the station, the 61-year-old suspect was held in police custody. Authorities said they will complete the case documentation before filing the formal complaint and any criminal charges.
The identity of the victims and the exact village were not released beyond the initials and municipality. The police continue their investigation into the reported domestic violence incident.
