Stanković reportedly resigns after Red Star's Marakana defeat
After a 2:0 loss to Hapoel Beer Sheva on 12 August 2026 and a red card, an emergency board meeting is scheduled to consider his future.
On 12 August 2026 Red Star Belgrade were eliminated from the Champions League qualifiers after a 2:0 defeat by Hapoel Beer Sheva at the Marakana, and reports say head coach Dejan Stanković has resigned.
The home loss sealed the club's exit from the competition. Stanković was shown a red card in the middle of the second half and therefore was unable to face the media after the match under UEFA rules.
Expectations that assistant coach Nenad Sakić would speak at the post-match press conference were frustrated when, after nearly an hour, the club's press officer appeared to announce that there would be no conference.
Several Serbian outlets have since reported that Stanković submitted his resignation in the dressing room and said farewell to the players, a move that would bring an end to his second spell in charge of the club.
Shortly before midnight the club announced an emergency meeting of the Board of Directors to be held at 12:00 today; the meeting is expected to formally address Stanković's decision.
The development ends a turbulent night at the Marakana and begins an immediate search for the next steps at Red Star, with the board meeting likely to decide whether to accept the reported resignation and name an interim arrangement.
