Milan hit by new injury — Ruben Loftus-Cheek out for at least a month
Ruben Loftus-Cheek suffered a left-thigh muscle injury and will miss the derby with Inter plus at least three more matches.
AC Milan have been dealt another injury blow ahead of the city derby with Inter: midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has suffered a left-thigh muscle injury and is expected to be sidelined for at least one month.
The club confirmed Loftus-Cheek will undergo a further medical examination in two weeks, while Italian media outlets put his recovery timeline at a minimum of one month. The 30-year-old Englishman will therefore miss at least the next four fixtures for the Rossoneri: the derby with Inter, and matches against Bologna, Ferencváros and Genoa.
Injury list grows
The setback comes amid an increasing list of absences at Milan. In the past week the club has also had problems with Samuel Chukwueze, Mario Hila, Diego Moreira and Adrien Rabiot, leaving the squad thinner going into a congested calendar.
Club medical staff and the coaching team are monitoring the situation closely and hope some of the other injured players will recover in time for the Inter match, but Loftus-Cheek’s absence removes a key midfield option for the immediate future.
The development adds further selection headaches for Milan’s coaching staff as they prepare for a high-stakes derby and European fixtures in the coming weeks.
