The Serbian player had been spending time with supporters after practice ahead of the Beijing tournament when someone in the crowd threw a cap that hit Djokovic on the head. Witnesses described the world No. 1 as startled; he looked toward the person who threw the object before leaving the court.
Charlie Gomez, who works alongside Djokovic, immediately intervened and instructed security to remove the individual from the venue. Organizers and team staff treated the episode as a breach of the autograph queue and an unnecessary provocation.

Djokovic exited the court soon after the incident. According to on-site reports, he returned to his preparations for the Beijing event later in the day and appeared in better spirits during subsequent interactions with supporters.
