Oil prices rise to about $97 per barrel after Trump comments

Global oil prices climbed on world exchanges today, with Brent trading at $97.05 per barrel and U.S. crude at $90.37 per barrel after notable intraday gains. Markets pushed prices higher following comments by U.S. President Donald Trump to the Financial Times.

On the London market Brent crude rose to $97.05 a barrel, up $2.43 from the previous day. On U.S. exchanges, the price of crude increased by $2.25 to $90.37 a barrel.

Market reaction and recent context

Traders had pushed prices down yesterday amid speculation that President Trump might move to end the conflict in Iran. The reversal today was attributed directly to Trump’s subsequent remarks to the Financial Times.

In his interview, Trump said the United States was prepared to strike Iran again and was quoted saying, "if they have to, but maybe there will be no reason for that." That statement prompted a swift reassessment of risk in oil markets, helping to lift prices.

Observers said the episode underscores how sensitive oil markets remain to geopolitical signals. Prices are likely to stay volatile while political uncertainty persists in the Middle East.
