Karpoš Municipality switches off fountains to curb mosquitoes

Karpoš Municipality has temporarily shut off four public fountains on its territory as a preventive step to reduce standing water and the risk of mosquito breeding amid measures against West Nile virus.

Which fountains were affected

The fountains taken offline are in Bardovci, on Delfina Square in Vlae, in Karpoš 3 opposite the Tineks supermarket, and the fountain opposite the Goce Delchev student dormitory.

"We hope for understanding from the residents of Karpoš, because Karpoš Municipality is taking this measure in the interest of the safety and health of all residents," the municipality said.

The municipality called on citizens to follow the recommendations issued by the Institute of Public Health. Authorities say the move is preventive and forms part of local activities to limit conditions that favour the emergence of mosquito larvae.

Officials also reminded residents that personal protection — such as topical repellents and other commercially available anti‑mosquito products — can help reduce bites, and urged people to check official guidance from health authorities if they have concerns.
