Municipality of Saraj begins clearing hazardous dump in Radusha after public outcry
Mayor Muhamed Elmazi announced mechanized removal of waste in Radusha, carried out in cooperation with the City of Skopje amid fears for the Rashche spring.
After a widely shared video and sharp public reactions, the Municipality of Saraj said last night that crews have begun clearing a hazardous illegal dump in the village of Radusha, a site local officials and residents fear could endanger the Rashche spring.
Operation and cooperation
The mayor of Saraj, Muhamed Elmazi, announced that municipal teams, using heavy machinery and working in cooperation with the City of Skopje, carried out the initial removal of accumulated waste at the Radusha location.
Elmazi said: "As part of actions to clean up illegal dumps on the territory of the Municipality of Saraj, in cooperation with the City of Skopje, we carried out an action to clean the illegal dump in the settlement of Radusha. This is another step in our continuous efforts to create a cleaner and safer environment for all citizens. With joint work and dedication we achieve concrete results. For a cleaner Saraj and a better environment for all!"
Municipal officials said the intervention relied primarily on mechanized equipment to remove and secure large volumes of waste quickly. The work follows complaints from residents and online footage that prompted concern about contamination reaching the nearby Rashche spring, an important local water source.
Authorities did not publish a full timetable for the cleanup or say how long the operation will last. They described the action as part of ongoing efforts to reduce illegal dumping across Saraj and appealed to citizens to report further sites of concern.
