Five active fires — blazes still burning near Gracani and Nikishtani

The Center for Crisis Management (CCM) reported this morning that 42 fires were recorded across the country in the past 24 hours, of which five were active, five were brought under control and 32 were extinguished.

Active blazes remain near Skopje

Active fires continue to burn near the villages of Gracani and Nikishtani in the Gjorche Petrov municipality. The CCM also says there is active forest burning on the territory of Kosovo.

Firefighters are also dealing with a blaze at a place called Ramno in the village of Brest, in the Chucher-Sandevo municipality, on the slopes of Skopska Crna Gora.

Additional outbreaks were reported in the Struga municipality, near the villages of Burinec, Lokov and Selce; in Makedonski Brod near the village of Belica; and in Brvenica near the village of Miletino.

Fires that have been brought under control include those near the villages of Knezhino and Dobrinoec, the fire at Tajmishte in the Kichevo municipality, the fire at the village of Kopanica in Saraj, the blaze at the municipal landfill in Delcevo, and the fire between the villages of Rudjince and Orah in Staro Nagorichane.

The 32 extinguished fires were recorded in numerous municipalities, including Petrovets, Gazi Baba, Chucher-Sandevo, Gjorche Petrov, Saraj, Tearce, Kratovo, Kumanovo, Lipkovo, Berovo, Shtip, Struga, Kichevo, Dolneni, Bitola, Novaci, Gevgelija, Novo Selo, Strumica, Krushevo, Ohrid and Gradsko.

In Skopje residents reported heavy smoke; authorities say the haze over the capital is coming from three new open-space fires outside the city.
