Five dead and 40 injured after Dutch tour bus overturns near Swiss National Park

Five people died and 40 were injured after a Dutch-registered tour bus left the road and overturned near the Swiss National Park in the canton of Graubünden on Thursday late afternoon, September 11, 2026.
The cantonal police in Graubünden said a total of 45 people were on board. Three passengers sustained serious injuries, seven were moderately injured and 30 suffered minor injuries. The authorities have not released a cause for the crash.
"The Graubünden public prosecutor's office, in cooperation with the cantonal police, is determining the circumstances that led to the accident of the tourist bus," the official statement said. Police also said the process of identifying everyone on the vehicle was still under way.

The group was travelling toward the Engadin region. At the time of the accident the bus was heading toward the village of Susch, close to the Swiss National Park and at the foot of the Flüela pass (2,383 metres).
Investigators say the bus first struck a protective guardrail at the roadside, then left the carriageway on the right side, overturned and came to rest on its side. Emergency services, including police, ambulance crews and fire brigades, remained at the scene late into the night, and helicopters were used in the rescue operation.
Swiss President Guy Parmelin expressed his sympathy and promised a thorough investigation: "My thoughts are with the victims and their relatives." Dutch tour operator Oad said: "Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this accident and with their families."
