Drunk woman wrecked ex’s home in Bjelovar and hit him with a plastic bowl

A 40-year-old woman forcibly entered her former partner's home in Bjelovar, Croatia, and destroyed large parts of the apartment before physically assaulting the 42-year-old man, a court ruling says.

According to the judgment, the woman ripped a chandelier from the ceiling, smashed kitchenware and plates, and then struck the man in the face with hands, feet and a plastic bowl, causing injuries to his nose. The incident prompted the man to call police after he was unable to calm her down.

Court decision and measures

At the hearing the defendant, identified only as Ana, admitted being under the influence of alcohol but said she had come to retrieve personal items and her mobile phone that he had allegedly taken. She told the judge: "He wouldn't return my things, so I started insulting him. I removed the chandelier from the ceiling because he had taken it when he was leaving my place. It's possible I broke something because I was very angry, enraged and under the influence of alcohol."

Police established that the woman had 1.20‰ alcohol in her blood. The court found her guilty and fined her 210 euros plus 30 euros in court costs; 80 euros will be deducted from that amount because she already spent two days in custody.

In addition to the monetary penalty, the court issued a three-month restraining order barring her from approaching her ex-partner closer than 20 metres.
