Ismail Bojda, the honorary president of the Union of Macedonians of Islamic Religion, has died in Skopje at the age of 72.
The union's current president, Ljatif Pajkoski, issued a statement mourning the loss and praising Bojda's lifelong commitment. He said: "It is with great sorrow that we inform you that our honorary president Ismail Bojda has died. We have lost a great man, a patriot, a comrade and a friend. He dedicated his entire life to advocating for the rights of Macedonians who belong to the Islamic religion, and in that context his deeds will remain as an example for future generations on how one should be proud to belong to the Macedonian people but also honored and proud to belong to the Islamic religion," said the current president of the Union, Ljatif Pajkoski.
Background and origins
Bojda was originally from the village of Borje in the Gora region of Kosovo. Throughout his public life he was identified with efforts to defend and promote the interests of Macedonians who practice Islam.
The funeral is scheduled for tomorrow in Skopje, on August 2, 2026. Details about the time and the place of the ceremony were announced by the union.
Colleagues and members of the community have been offering condolences since the announcement. Bojda’s supporters say his work — both public and behind the scenes — will be remembered by those he represented.
