Police recorded 606 e-scooter violations in August; 18 scooters seized
Ministry of Interior: most common offence was riding without a reflective vest at night; intensified checks will continue.
The police registered 606 traffic offences involving electric scooters in August during intensified checks across the country, and 18 scooters were confiscated for 30 days, the Ministry of Interior announced on 15 September 2026.
Details of violations and locations
The most frequent violation was riding without a reflective vest at night, which led to 162 fines. Another 134 riders were fined for not using a bicycle or pedestrian lane, and 59 were sanctioned for riding without a protective helmet.
Police also recorded 45 cases of two people being transported on a single scooter and 20 offences committed by minors operating electric scooters. In addition, the Mobile Unit for Traffic Safety documented 69 violations.
By location, the highest number of violations was in Bitola with 236 recorded offences, followed by Skopje with 97 and Strumica with 82. Ohrid had 57 violations, Tetovo 27, Veles 18, Shtip 13 and Kumanovo seven.
The Ministry of Interior said the intensified controls will continue with the aim of improving road safety and ensuring compliance with traffic rules.
Authorities urged riders to use reflective equipment at night, to travel on designated lanes where required and to wear helmets, reminding that scooters operated by minors or carrying two people increase the risk of accidents.
